One of the most beloved entries in the Assassin's Creed series is making a triumphant return next month. Ubisoft recently confirmed that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced—a fully remade version of the iconic 2013 pirate adventure—will launch on July 9, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. The game carries a PEGI-18 rating.

Developed at Ubisoft Singapore, the remake is being steered by an experienced team: Richard Knight serves as Game Director, Paul Fu as Creative Director, Julien Koch as Level Design Director, Jussi Markkanen as Tech Director, and Justin Ng as Lead Producer.'

Several members of the team have deep personal history with the original Black Flag—Koch was a Level Designer on the 2013 game, and Fu was part of the original naval team for Assassin's Creed III that laid the groundwork for Black Flag's seafaring gameplay.

ACBFR also had significant input from the Ubisoft Pune team based in the country.

The remake is powered by the latest iteration of Ubisoft's in-house Anvil engine, bringing with it ray tracing, micropolygon rendering, dynamic weather systems, and environment destruction—all absent from the 2013 original. The Caribbean open world is now seamless, with no loading between the open seas, underwater shipwrecks, and dense tropical jungles.

Beyond the visual overhaul, ACBFR expands the original story with new narrative content: fresh missions dedicated to fan-favourite characters such as Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet, and three new officer characters woven into the main storyline.

Gameplay has been substantially updated, with new parrying mechanics, the ability to crouch anywhere during stealth sequences, more flexible tailing missions, new sea shanties, and even pets aboard the Jackdaw. Ubisoft describes ACBFR as "a faithful enhanced remake of the original title from 2013."
