Andhra Pradesh will have a dedicated centre for Quantum computing up and running by January next year. Backed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the ‘Quantum Valley’ will come up on a 50-acre campus in Amaravati. Recently, one of the proposals approved in the state cabinet was the establishment of the AP State Quantum Mission (SQM).

The Quantum Valley will be part of the mission, and it will nurture the research in quantum computing, drug discovery, AI and cyber security. The state is hoping that the project will attract investments and global talent to the state.

Collaborating with the state on this project would be IT giants like IBM and TCS, along with construction major L&T. The state government has already entered into an MoU with all three companies.

IBM will deploy their 156-qubit Quantum System 2 in the state, which will be the largest quantum computing system to be installed in the country. TCS will contribute to the software development. The L&T will develop the Quantum Valley Tech Park.

Not stopping at that, the state also plans to organise a Quantum Summit this month to rope in experts to develop strategic action plans.

The chief minister, known for being tech-savvy, has also pitched the model at the CII conference held in Delhi last week.

In his address, he highlighted that Amaravati will house India’s first Quantum Computing Centre and unveiled his plans to turn the state into a $2.4 trillion economy by 2047. He sent out a message to the CII members that he welcomes collaborations.

“India’s first Quantum Computing Centre will be operational in Amaravati by January 2026. I invite you to make use of this facility. With TCS, IBM, and L&T as partners, this ecosystem will drive breakthroughs in health, energy, cryptography, and manufacturing by uniting startups, academia and industry leaders,” he said.

At the NITI Aayog governing council meeting held in Delhi last month, the CM proposed a state sub-group to adopt AI and quantum technology in governance.
