President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the United States could potentially restart military strikes on Iran if Tehran "misbehaves".

Speaking to reporters as he boarded Air Force One in South Florida, the president said he had been told about the concept of a deal with Iran, but was waiting for the exact wording.

"I don't want to say that. I mean, I cant tell that to a reporter. If they misbehave, if they do something bad, but right now, we will see. It's certainly a possibility," Trump said when asked about the prospect of restarting military strikes on Iran.

He said talks were progressing on Iran’s latest proposals to end the conflict despite uncertainty within Tehran’s leadership.

"Doing very well with regard to just about everything, but doing very well with regard to Iran. Again, they want to make a deal, they're decimated. They're having a hard time figuring out who their leader is. Uh, they don't know who their leader is because their leader's gone," Trump said.

The US and Israel suspended their military campaign against Iran four weeks ago, but no deal has emerged to end a war that has severely disrupted global oil markets and fueled inflation worldwide.

Reports indicate that Tehran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz before resolving nuclear issues, a suggestion reportedly conveyed to the US through mediators.

On Saturday, Trump took to his social media platform, stating he couldn't imagine accepting the proposals, claiming Iran had not yet "paid a big enough price for what it has done".

"I will soon be reviewing the plan that Iran has just sent to us, but can't imagine that it would be acceptable in that they have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World, over the last 47 years," Trump wrote.
