Just days after the US special forces launched a high-stakes raid into Iran to rescue an injured airman left stranded in a remote mountainous region of Isfahan, an unverified report has claimed that the Israeli spy agency, Mossad, paved a new asphalt road in the heart of an isolated Iranian desert area for the US planes to land.

The report that appeared on an Israeli website quoted Iranian bloggers who shed new light on the depth of intelligence and operational penetration attributed to Israel inside Iran. According to an Iranian blogger, the Israeli Mossad succeeded in carrying out a  covert engineering operation under the watchful eye of the security apparatus in Tehran.

Mossad agents paved a new asphalt road in the heart of an isolated desert area, near the city of Isfahan, to allow the landing of American planes and helicopters, which were participating in the rescue operation for the American pilot whose plane was shot down in Iranian territory.

The new claim joins a series of reports and publications surrounding the rescue operation, which is considered one of the most dramatic events of the war with Iran.

However, Iran dismissed the US claims and believes that the rescue operation was not  just an operation to save an American crew member, but may have served as a "smokescreen" for other, broader and more significant operational activity in the Isfahan area.

The new report about the construction of an asphalt road in the desert also fits into the same picture of Iranian suspicion. If the claim is true, it may indicate early preparation, exceptional logistical capability, and deep penetration into Iranian territory, far beyond a targeted intelligence operation. The very possibility that such a road was built under the noses of the Iranian security forces is causing great embarrassment in Tehran.

At this stage, there is no official confirmation, according to the Iranian blogger, that the road was paved by the Mossad.
