With the war in the Gulf currently paused with a fragile two-week ceasefire, gamblers on the prediction market Polymarket are going back and forth over a crucial question: whether US forces 'entered' Iran by April 30 or not.

The question, which has been on the crypto-based prediction platform for weeks, carries a $269 million stake, and is seen as a gauge of public predictions on the potential ground operation by the US to secure Iran's uranium, and/or its strategically vital islands.

While US President Donald Trump has not issued any such order yet, gamblers on the platform have been engaged in debates over whether the recent rescue operation—conducted by the US special forces behind enemy lines—to save a fighter jet pilot counted as "entering" Iran.

However, last Wednesday, a Polymarket jury (of sorts), which resolves disputes of this kind, ruled that the quick, in-and-out rescue mission still satisfied the terms of the betting contract, as it had taken place behind enemy lines.

“The purpose of this contract was to assess the odds of serious military intervention, in the sense of boots on the ground or extended special-forces operations,” Jan Czarnocki, a Swiss lawyer who had bet that the US wouldn't enter Iran, later told The Wall Street Journal.

Prediction markets like Polymarket let gamblers bet on yes-or-no questions about future events in politics, sports, business or even pop culture.

According to the Polymarket website, the 'YES' ruling on the question was disputed twice before it was resolved.

With a few weeks to go before the April 30 end of the contract, it is unclear whether the betting platform will change the decision amid the ongoing debate on it, and how the peace talks between the two sides will affect the course of the war, going forward.
