Casting doubts about Friday’s peace talks between Iran and the United States, Iran's ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, pulled down an X post in which he announced the arrival of Iranian delegates to Pakistan.
Ambassador Moghadam, in his initial post, said that “despite scepticism of Iranian public opinion due to repeated ceasefire violations by the Israeli regime,” the delegation would travel to Islamabad. “Iranian delegation arrives tonight in Islamabad for serious talks based on 10 points proposed by Iran,” he said in a post on X.
However, deleted the post less than an hour later, but offered no clarification.
Moghadam’s comments had contradicted those of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who claimed that these violations made the talks "illogical."
Iran has accused the US of violating ceasefire terms after Israel carried out devastating attacks on Lebanon, killing hundreds of civilians on Wednesday. “From the very beginning, we have been following the current process with distrust, and as expected, the United States of America has once again violated its commitments before the negotiations even began,” Qalibaf wrote in his post.
Iranian military spokesman Mohammad Ekrami Nia also told the news channel of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) that “the Americans, and Trump in particular, have proven that they are completely untrustworthy. “Our hands are on the trigger, and our ears are attuned to the orders of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces." "The enemy has shown in the nuclear agreement and in two rounds of negotiations that it cannot be trusted, but given the blows it has received, we hope it will come to its senses”.
Interestingly, Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, while detailing the security arrangements in place for the US Ambassador to Pakistan, Natalie Baker, made no mention of the Iranian delegations. “A comprehensive plan has been prepared to provide foolproof security to all foreign guests in every respect,” the minister was quoted as saying.
