Dubai already has a reliable electricity supply, but now the city is set to get world's first AI virtual engineer to monitor the power network and predict potential issues beforehand.

The AI-powered virtual engineer will be deployed by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). The project was announced by DEWA MD and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer during the final day of the World Governments Summit 2026.

"The world is undergoing a major transformation in the energy sector, a key pillar in building more sustainable and resilient systems,” said Al Tayer.

The system will go through the operational data and provide failure alerts, chalk out root cause analysis, recomment plant optimisation and offer real-time simlations.

The virtual engineer will ensure steady supply of electricity during summer and maintain high quality service currently enjoyed by the residents.

DEWA aleady has the world's first AI-powered gas turbine intelligent controller at its Jebel Ali Power and Desalination Complex.

Interestingly, DEWA kicked off its AI journey as early as 2017 with its AI-powered virtual employee, Rammas, which has handled over 12 million customer inquiries.
