A series of new leaked videos of former ousted president Bashar al-Assad was posted on social media on Monday, just as Syrians celebrated the first anniversary of the former leader’s overthrow.

In the video's Assad is seen commenting on Putin’s looks and starving Syrians to his former advisor Luna al-Shibl, who died in a car crash in 2024. The video was released by the news site Al Arabia.

The exact date of the videos, however, is unknown.

The former president is currently in exile in Moscow, Syria’s most important ally during Assad’s regime.

In one private video, Assad is seen mocking Syrian people, saying that they spend on mosques even when they can't even afford food.

In another one, al-Shibl asks him what he feels when he sees portraits of himself across the country, to which he replied that he feels nothing.

Speaking on the situation in Syria, he says, “I don't just feel ashamed, I feel disgusted.”

In another, he makes harsh comments related to Eastern Ghouta, saying Curse Ghouta He also says, “and now we don't hear a word from them when Al-shibl says that the Hezbollah used to boast about its capabilities.

In one footage, Assad and al-Shibl mock Syrian military personnel who kissed the former’s hand in meetings. The latter also sarcastically remarks that Syrian people are “so polite”. In another clip, he says, “They look me in the face… I love them, but I’m disgusted by them.”

In one video, Assad mocks Russian President Putin’s look. Shibl asks, “Did you see how bloated Putin looks?”

Assad responds that “It's all procedure.”

“Yes, everything about Putin is procedures. He’s 65 years old… that clip exposed him badly,” Shibl says.

Amjad Issa, who was Shibl’s assistant, was in a car with them, according to sources who spoke to Al Arabiya.

Syrians have been discussing the videos because they reveal that Assad mocked them during his regime. According to Al Arabiya correspondent Mahmoud al-Wawi, the recordings are “more shocking to al-Assad’s supporters than to his opponents.”

Bashar al-Assad was overthrown last year after a rebel group launched an offensive on the capital Damascus. Assad who was the leader of the country from 2000 is currently in exile in Moscow.
