THE WEEK on Thursday evening handed over a detailed report on its Maritime Conclave 2025 to Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal.
The report presents vital insights from the two-day event held at Kochi's Crowne Plaza on September 15 and 16, in addition to analyses on industry challenges and important suggestions for the future.
THE WEEK's Chief of Bureau (Delhi), Namrata Biji Ahuja, was joined by Senior Assistant Editor, Sanjib Kr Baruah, in handing over the comprehensive report to the shipping minister, who was the chief guest and keynote speaker on the final day of the Maritime Conclave 2025.
“The shipping sector is a crucial component in the country’s long-term maritime and economic development stand,” Riyad Mathew, Chief Associate Editor and Director, THE WEEK, had said at the event, when he first announced the publication's plans for the maritime report.
Notably, a similar report outlining insights from THE WEEK Defence Conclave 2025, held in April this year, was presented to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, a week after the event.
Mathew also recalled Sonowal's dedication to the maritime sector, and the shipping minister expressing interest in "every detail of the summit" weeks ahead of the event.
Sonowal has been a major force behind India's transformation into a global maritime superpower by 2047, driven by legislative reforms, port modernisation, and a focus on sustainability and digitalisation—grand aims enshrined in the Maritime India Vision 2030 and the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
The second edition of THE WEEK Maritime Conclave also saw the launch of its ‘Maritime, Ahoy!’ microsite, a new addition to the publication’s dedicated coverage verticals, which already include Health, Defence, and the Middle East.
THE WEEK Maritime Conclave 2025 also saw a number of high-profile industry faces such as Madhu Nair, the chairman of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL); Pradeep Jayaraman, the CEO of Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited (AVPPL); and Navin Kumar Singh, the CEO of India International Arbitration Centre (IIAC).
It preceded the India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW 2025) from October 27 to 31, that brought in over Rs 12 lakh crore from over 600 Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) signed at the event.
