The Election Commission revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across five states and the Union Territory of Delhi, following representations from the respective chief electoral officers.
The electoral register update has been rescheduled in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Telangana, and Nagaland.
The poll panel informed separately the five states and the Union Territory of Delhi about the extension of the deadlines.
In Maharashtra, the cut-off date to submit claims and objections has been moved from October 26 to November 13. The notice stage and settlement of claims will continue until November 25, followed by the finalisation and publication of the definitive roll on November 30.
The draft roll was initially released on August 31, while dispute resolution had earlier been organised to end by November 10.
In Delhi, citizens may submit claims and objections up to November 25 rather than October 30. The scrutinising and disposal of claims have shifted from November 30 to December 15, with the ultimate roll scheduled for release on December 22.
The timeline for the Special Intensive Revision exercise has been postponed and adjusted on multiple previous occasions due to a variety of factors.
The window for notice and resolution will now conclude on November 20 for Andhra Pradesh and Haryana, November 25 for Nagaland, and November 26 for Telangana.
All four states will publish their completed electoral registers on November 30.
Announced by the Election Commission on May 14, the Phase 3 of the SIR programme covers 16 states alongside three Union Territories. The exercise began in Bihar in 2025, ahead of that state’s assembly polls.
