Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) chief Abhijeet Dipke on Sunday responded to claims made by the Delhi Police that he had refused their offer to return home after the death of his grandmother while he had been in custody.
The police had also released a video allegedly showing him declining the offer, to which he claimed on Sunday that they did not even allow him to use his phone "for two minutes" so that he could contact his cousin about the demise.
"By law, I have the right to call my lawyer as well. The Delhi Police did not allow that either; they wouldn't let me call my lawyer," he told reporters.
Dipke then alleged that the police had asked him, at 3:30 AM, to contact his parents and inform them that he had been arrested, and they had insisted on this "legal procedure".
"At 3:30 in the morning, Delhi Police asks me to call my father and inform him that tomorrow I’ll be going in jail for a long time. The same father who has just lost his mother," he declared in an X post, questioning the move.
Dipke's strong response comes after the Delhi Police released a video allegedly showing the CJP chief refuse their offer to return home after his grandmother died of health issues.
“As soon as the Delhi Police came to know about the passing away of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke's grandmother, officers approached him to tell him the sad news and to offer all possible assistance. They sensitively asked if he needed help with flights, phone calls, or anything else. They repeatedly asked if he wished to speak to his parents, but he declined,” DCP Neha Yadav told reporters.
Hours after his release, Dipke left for his native village in Maharashtra, and has promised that the CJP would not back down, adding that October 10 would be the "beginning of the end of this dictatorship".
