As a consequence of finding a mobile phone in the cell occupied by former MP Prajwal Revanna at Parappana Agrahara prison, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services Alok Kumar has directed the transfer of the convict to Hindalga Jail in Belagavi.
An official email has been sent to Hindalga Jail in Belagavi regarding Prajwal Revanna’s transfer, Kannada media reports said. The chief superintendent of the prison has been informed about the development, and the former Lok Sabha MP will be moved to the Belagavi facility at the earliest, the report added.
It was on August 11, 2026, that the Central Crime Branch (CCB), led by DCP Haribabu and Imam Qasim, conducted a raid at Parappana Agrahara prison. During the operation, a mobile phone was found in the cell occupied by Prajwal Revanna. The police also seized a charger, a blue notebook, and a pen drive.
Further probe revealed that the mobile phone contained social media platforms WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, along with OTT platforms Netflix and Prime Video with active plans. It was also reported that a forensic examination by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) found several video files on the phone, TV9 Kannada said in a report.
Following the raids, Assistant Superintendent Iranna Rangapur was suspended, while the superintendent of Bengaluru Central Prison was served a show-cause notice, earlier reports had said.
Prajwal Revanna is the son of JD(S) MLA H.D. Revanna and the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda.
The 36-year-old represented Hassan in the Lok Sabha from 2019 to 2024. He was arrested in May 2024 in connection with sexual assault cases and was subsequently convicted in a rape case.
In August 2025, a special court in Bengaluru sentenced him to life imprisonment, following which he was lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
