A 25-year-old security guard was arrested by the Gachibowli police on Wednesday after he attempted to molest a 24-year-old techie woman while she was boarding a cab in Hyderabad.
The incident took place around 10:30 am in Indiranagar, Hyderabad, as the woman waited to board a cab to leave for her office. As she attempted to enter the car, a security guard in the area allegedly pulled her aside and forcibly kissed her.
As the incident occurred on a busy road, the accused got scared and reportedly fled the scene after the woman started screaming loudly. The woman immediately informed her family and filed a case with the police.
Local media reports indicate the woman is a native of Visakhapatnam and works as an IT employee in a software company. She was staying at a PG hostel in Gachibowli’s Indiranagar.
The police, who checked the CCTV footage from the area, identified the accused as Raj Kumar, who is a native of Jharkhand. He was reportedly working as a security guard at Santhosh Dhaba, a restaurant in Indiranagar.
The officials tracked him down and arrested him. The Gachbowli police have registered cases against him under various sections. They are now investigating the circumstances and sequence of events that led to the alleged incident.
The incident comes after the Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) directed authorities to submit a detailed report from the Commissioner of Police on two recent cases of violence against women. One of the cases involved a video that surfaced online, in which an elderly woman was subjected to extreme torture with nails on suspicion that she was “possessed by an evil spirit.” The second incident involved an activist who filed a complaint, alleging that a policeman dragged her by her hair near Hafeezpet Railway Station.
In a separate incident that occurred early this month, eight were arrested for holding a teenager in captivity and sexually assaulting the girl under the influence of drugs in multiple locations in Hyderabad.
