A depression lying over the west-central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression and cross the north Andhra Pradesh–South Odisha coasts during the night of Wednesday and early hours of Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its forecast.

As per the IMD update, the depression over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal was expected to intensify into a deep depression. It was forecast to cross the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coasts between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur from the night of September 23 to the early hours of September 24.

The weather department had predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh during September 22 and 23. "Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Rayalaseema during September 22–28. Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during September 26–28," an IMD release said on Tuesday.

But is it going to be a rainy week for Andhra Pradesh alone? What about the rest of the southern states? As per the IMD forecast, isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Kerala and Lakshadweep during September 26–28 (Saturday to Monday). Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may also get isolated rainfall between September 22 and 28.

Here is what the residents of southern India should know about the latest IMD rain forecast:

KARNATAKA

  • Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over coastal parts from September 26 to 28 (Saturday to Monday). Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is forecast on Thursday and Friday.
  • North interior parts of the state may get isolated rainfall from September 25 to 27 (Friday to Sunday). Until then, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is a possibility.
  • Southern parts of the state should brace for the same from September 23 to 28 (Tuesday to Monday).

TELANGANA

  • Telangana is likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall until Sunday.
  • On Tuesday and Wednesday, isolated heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall are likely. These days may also witness winds blowing at 50–60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph.
  • On September 25 and 26, isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely, along with isolated very heavy rainfall.
  • Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Telangana during September 27 and 28 (Sunday and Monday).

  • Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely over Kerala and Mahe until Friday. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in some places in the state on these days.
  • Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Kerala and Mahe from Saturday to Monday.
  • Gusty winds are likely over Kerala and Mahe during September 22–25, with wind speeds reaching 30–40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph.

TAMIL NADU

  • Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until Monday, September 28.
