Heavy rain lashed several parts of Maharashtra on Tuesday night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a rain warning on Wednesday morning, predicting heavy rainfall likely over the next eight hours, and a yellow alert has been issued.
Rain accompanied by thunderstorms is forecast in Marathwada, Vidarbha, and Konkan on Wednesday, said the IMD. Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is forecast in Latur, Dharashiv, Yavatmal, Nanded, Chandrapur, Nagpur, Gadchiroli, and Gondia districts as well, Marathi media said. Most places in the state are likely to remain cloudy today, the reports added.
Thunderstorms are expected in Kolhapur, Sangli, Pune, Nashik, Satara, Solapur, and Ahilyanagar districts on Wednesday, TV9 Marathi quoted the IMD as saying. Mumbai’s seven lakes were at 98.13 per cent of their combined useful storage capacity as of 6 am on Wednesday, another report said, citing data from the Hydraulic Engineer’s Department.
A depression lying over the west-central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression, the IMD has said. A deep depression is a weather system that is more intense than a low-pressure area and less than a cyclonic storm.
"Isolated thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) likely over Konkan & Goa during 22nd-24th September; Madhya Maharashtra and Marathawada during 22nd-25th September. Strong Surface Winds likely over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathawada during 24th-25th September," a weather forecast by the IMD read.

"Isolated to Scattered rainfall likely over Konkan & Goa and Marathawada during 24th-28th September; Madhya Maharashtra during 23rd-28th September; Gujarat Region during 22nd-28th September; Saurashtra & Kutch during 22nd-24th September," it added.
