Three men, posing as policemen inside the Astha Kunj park in Southeast Delhi’s Kalkaji area on Monday, reportedly raped a 17-year-old girl, police said on Tuesday.
One of the suspects, identified as Asif, was arrested after a police encounter, officials confirmed.
Police said that Asif fired three rounds at officers attempting to intercept him near DM Office Road in Amar Colony.
During the exchange of fire, a bullet struck Head Constable Rajesh. The officer returned the fire, striking Asif in the right leg. The suspect was moved to AIIMS Trauma Centre for Medical attention.
According to police, the victims had gone to Kalkaji Mandir with her 17-year-old friend to offer prayers around 7 pm. the two then went to sit at the Astha Kunja park, which is close to Kalkaji Mandir and ISKCON temple, around 7: 30 pm.
The three accused, aged around 25 to 30 years, approached the two and claimed to be policemen. The accused allegedly threatened the two and raped the girl; one of the accused allegedly threatened her with a firearm and a knife before sexually assaulting her. The two other accused also proceeded to sexually assault her while one of them reportedly held the teen’s friend.
They reportedly threatened them with arrest before leaving the park.
A PCR call reporting the incident was made around 8:45 pm. A police team reached the spot and the victim was taken for a medical examination at AIIMS.
A case was registered under the POCSO sections after the minor’s statement was recorded. Police teams have been deployed to trace and arrest the remaining two accused.
CCTV footage from the park and surrounding areas has been scanned.
The also collected statements of people who may have been present near the park at the time of the incident
This is the fourth case of rape of a minor in the national capital in 10 days. Earlier this month, a 17-year-old was raped and killed by three minors in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar. Her body was found decomposed and mauled by dogs days after the incident.
A 10-year-old was abducted and sexually assaulted by a shopkeeper after she went out to buy stationery in Delhi’s Sadar Bazar area on September 16.
A six-year-old was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 34-year-old man in the Kishan Ganj area in Central Delhi on September 21.
