A 56-year-old shopkeeper was arrested in Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar after he was found to have abducted and raped a 10-year-old girl, police said on Monday.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 16th. The child, who is in 6th standard at a private school, left her home at around 11 pm to buy stationary items including notebooks and pens.
On her way back, the shopkeeper reportedly lured her inside his shop. He then tied up her hands and feet before sexually assaulting her.
When the girl did not return, her mother began searching for her. When she went to the accused man’s shop, he denied seeing her. The accused reportedly gave up after the mother’s questioning about her child.
The accused Maqsood was arrested after police received a PCR call at around 11 pm. A team from the Sadar Bazaar Police Station rushed to the scene along with a team from the women’s police station.
A case was registered based on the victim’s complaint under the POCSO Act and wrongful confinement.
An investigation is ongoing, and police are examining evidence and the circumstances surrounding the crime.
