Conditions are becoming favourable for the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from some parts of West Rajasthan around Saturday, September 19, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
In a weather forecast released on Tuesday, the IMD predicted fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on Thursday, September 17.
Elaborating on the forecast for the northwest part of the country, it said: "Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning likely over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, and Punjab during 16th–17th September. Isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning likely over rest parts of northwest India."
As per the weather bureau, isolated or scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Madhya Pradesh from September 18 to 21 (Friday to Monday), Chhattisgarh from September 16 to 21, and Odisha until Friday, September 18. Bihar and Jharkhand should also expect isolated to scattered rainfall until Monday.
From the northeast, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura have been identified as states likely to get some rainfall in the coming days, particularly on Thursday. "Isolated thunderstorm & lightning likely over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya during 15th–17th September. Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya during 15th–17th September," it further said.
The weather predictions for the southern states include chances of isolated heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry until September 21; Kerala from September 19 to 21; coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema on September 19 and 20; and Telangana from September 19 to 21. Kerala should brace for isolated thunderstorms and lightning from September 17 to 19 (Thursday to Saturday).
