In a disturbing case, a school bus driver was arrested on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old at a nursery school in Delhi’s Bawana.
Officials said that Vikas, the suspect, has been working as a school bus driver at the private school for around eight months.
Police said that he allegedly lured the child by offering her chocolates. He reportedly sexually abused the child using the same method on multiple occasions.
Police arrested Vikas from the school premises after the child's identity and allegations were established during the investigation.
The matter came to light after the minor told her mother about the incident. She told her mother that a man at school inappropriately touched and assaulted her, the police said.
"However, the girl didn't know the man's name. The parents went to the school, and the school administration showed them photos of the staff and CCTV footage from the school. She then identified the driver," a senior police officer said.
Police said that the child was sexually assaulted at least four times, both in the bathroom and at the bottom of a staircase.
The accused man’s mobile phone was also seized. Videos on his mobile showed the suspect luring multiple children with chocolates.
"We found the phone contained several videos showing him feeding chocolates to young children. We have also secured the footage from the CCTV cameras installed on the school premises. In many cameras, he is seen with chocolates in his hand and standing with other children. We are counselling all kids. In the girl's case, he would follow her to the washroom, offer chocolates and then assault her near the staircase," added the officer.
A complaint was filed by the parents of the victim at the Bawana police station. The FIR was lodged under sections on sexual harassment, assault and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
