The Chennai airport authorities declared full emergency response measures after an Indigo flight alerted that they developed an engine failure on Tuesday night.

At around 11 29 pm on August 11, Indigo flight 6E-723, which was headed for Chennai from Kolkata, declared a full emergency, the Airport Authority of India said. The flight was carrying 224 people.

The aircraft was meant to arrive at the airport at around 11:30, but the pilot noticed that the left engine had failed as he prepared to land. He alerted air traffic control and airport authorities activated emergency response measures to facilitate the aircraft's safe landing.

The airport positioned fire tenders, rescue vehicles and medical teams near the runway as a precaution.

The full emergency was withdrawn at 11:47 pm after the aircraft landed safely on Runway 25 at around 11:37 pm.

Airport authorities said that all operations remained normal following the incident.
