Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta slammed an Aam Aadmi Party MLA after a viral video showed him sitting and signing papers from the constituency in his undergarments.
A video of Anil Jha Vats wearing just his vest and shorts, seated cross-legged in a chair with a saffron cloth over his lap outside, went viral on social media.
The video was taken while Jha was reportedly signing application forms from constituents for Delhi government’s scheme for financial aid to women.
The video drew sharp criticism from the Delhi CM. She called the MLA’s conduct shameful and demanded strict action against him, NDTV reported. "Your behaviour is shameful. You should at least dress properly when women come to you to get their papers signed," "This sort of indecent behaviour from an MLA cannot be tolerated. His Assembly membership should be cancelled," the Chief Minister demanded amid protests from AAP MLAs.
“I saw their reel. Delhi’s people are questioning you. You should be ashamed. I have seen the recordings. This is not how a public representative should behave,” she added.
She also accused Jha of making obscene gestures during the assembly proceedings and demanded action against him. "The House is the supreme forum for democratic decorum and dignity. The uncivil behaviour of the Aam Aadmi Party and their MLA will not be tolerated under any circumstances. A complaint will be lodged at the appropriate level in this regard," she said.
Jha is seen signing the application form submitted by residents, including several women, for Delhi’s Lakshmi Yojana, which offers financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month to eligible women.
The AAP MLA meanwhile denied the Chief Minister's allegation and demanded proof os him making any gestures.
"She should show the video of me making any wrong gestures. She doesn't have answers on people's problems, so she is making all these allegations," Vats later said.
Jha is a three-time MLA from Kirari and currently the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.
