It just over two months ago when Aija Mahesh, 19, from Kerala's Kasaragod, died by suicide while preparing for NEET re-examination. On Sunday, her brother, Arjun Mahesh, also killed himself at a Mangaluru hotel.
Arjun, 24, was reportedly depressed after his sister's death. Though he left for work after her final rites, he flew back without informing his family.
He flew from Sharjah to Mangaluru on Sunday booked a room at Sky Grand Empire Hotel in Maravoor around noon. He was an automobile engineer with Nissan in Dubai.
The hotel staff informed Bajpe Police in the morning after Arjun did not open the door. A note reading, "Amma, I'm sorry" was recovered from the room. He also named some of the friends who should be informed about his death.
Aija, who was confident of scoring well in the original exam held on May 3, was stressed after the NEET exams were cancelled over irregularities and paper leak. She was under pressure while preparing for re-examination and came back to her hostel in Pala, Kottayam.
On June 2, she was found in a critical condition at her hostel room by her classmates around noon. Aija was rushed to a private hospital, following which she was moved to a multi-speciality hospital. She died on June 3 while undergoing treatment.
