Even as the Centre passed the anti-paper leak bill amid nationwide protest by students, the question paper of All Odisha Medical PG Examination was circulated on WhatsApp on July 27 during the theory examination.

Officials said the question paper (second) for General Surgery of the MS/MD course for the 2023-26 batch was leaked on certain WhatsApp groups formed by some PG students. Besides, answers were also forwarded from certain numbers while the test was underway.

The incident came to light when a private medical colleged student in Bhubaneswar flagged the issue after receiving the photographs of the question paper. He revealed that the question paper was accessed from a WhatsApp group formed by a student of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. A total of 154 students are appearing for the exam in MKCG Medical College and Hospital.

Following this,  Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS) vice-chancellor Manas Ranjan Sahoo called a virtual meeting with the medical college principals and asked them to tighten security for the upcoming exams. Two more exams are scheduled on August 1 and 5.

MKCG Medical College and Hospital dean-cum-principal Harekrushna Dalai claimed that it was not a paper leak as it came out from the exam hall and not leaked before the exam.

"Despite our routine checking and disallowing of mobile phone sets in the exam hall, we are surprised to find such instances. We wonder what type of electronic devices were used to share images of the question paper," he added.
