The National Testing Agency (NTA) has cautioned NEET-UG 2026 candidates against submitting fake or AI-generated OMR response sheets while seeking scrutiny of their results, warning that doing so could invite legal action.

The agency said several OMR sheets recently submitted for verification were found to be fabricated or generated using artificial intelligence, prompting it to closely scrutinise all complaints.

“NTA is closely monitoring and scrutinising all complaints. In the wake of many OMR sheets submitted for scrutiny turning out to be fake/AI generated, students and parents are advised to submit only original OMRs for scrutiny.  Any fake / AI generated OMR may invite legal action against the complainant,” the agency said in an advisory.

More than 20 lakh candidates appeared for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, which was held on June 21 across 5,440 centres in India and 14 overseas centres. The exam was conducted in 13 languages, including Hindi and English.

The NTA had earlier cancelled the May 3 NEET-UG examination following allegations of a paper leak, triggering widespread protests and controversy.

The re-examination, however, als had its share of controversies. In Indore, the Crime Branch arrested a first-year law student for allegedly operating an online racket that sold fake, AI-generated NEET question papers to aspirants.

In another incident, a video claiming that the re-test question paper had been leaked went viral on social media. Authorities later confirmed that the video was fake. Separately, in Bihar's Lakhisarai district, police unearthed a large-scale impersonation racket allegedly aimed at helping candidates cheat in the NEET-UG re-examination.
