The death of a newlywed woman in Delhi's Lodhi Colony area on Saturday has sparked similarities to the sensational case around former model Twisha Sharma's death in Bhopal back in May this year.

The woman, identified as 28-year-old Akriti Sutar, reportedly died after falling from the top of a building, but her family has alleged that her death was not due to suicide.

Akriti's family have now blamed her in-laws for her death, alleging that she was mentally strong and would never take such a drastic step.

Her family explained that since her marriage to the son of a section officer in the Labour Department on April 24 this year, Akriti had been living with him in a government flat in Delhi's Pushpa Vihar.

They added that she had spoken to them as usual before heading home from work on the day of her death. Akriti allegedly worked as a sales executive for a private company in Delhi's Chhatarpur area, as per an Aaj Tak report.

A short while later, her mobile phone became unreachable. This made them worried, and they decided to search for her.

It was amid this search that they were informed by the Lodhi Colony Police Station that Akriti had been found injured after her fall from the NDMC flat in Palika Kunj, and was rushed to AIIMS Delhi, where doctors reportedly declared her brought dead.

Her family then rushed to the hospital, where they levelled serious allegations against her in-laws, and have sought an impartial probe into the incident.

The police have initiated action under Section 196 of the BNSS, as the wait begins for the postmortem report of Akriti's body.

This comes just months after former model Twisha Sharma's body was found hanging on the terrace of her in-laws' place in Bhopal, just five months after her marriage to lawyer Samarth Singh.

Sharma's family immediately alleged foul play, pointing to dowry harassment and mental torture.

The case, which dominated news cycles for weeks at the time, was further complicated when Sharma's family alleged the high-profile influence of Samarth's mother, Giribala Singh, a retired district judge, in the case.

The case was later handed over to the CBI, which continues to probe the case after it moved the Bhopal court on June 30 to extend the judicial custody of Giribala and Samarth for 14 days.
