The internal turmoil within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) escalated further after Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar, son of rebel TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, issued a legal notice to party chief Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of making false claims that he had sought a ticket to contest the West Bengal Assembly elections from Barasat.
Baidyanath Ghosh also sent notices to several senior TMC leaders, including Mahua Moitra, Kalyan Banerjee, Sougata Roy, and Sonali Guha.
In his notice, Ghosh, a psychiatrist by profession, denied allegations that he had ever sought an MLA ticket from the Barasat constituency, stating that he has no political ambitions in that regard. He demanded a public clarification and apology from the leaders within 15 days, insisting that any false statements about his conduct or intentions be withdrawn and corrected.
In a separate social media post on Sunday, Ghosh accused Mahua Moitra of falsely claiming that his mother was “crying for an MLA ticket” for him.
“Mahua Moitra has falsely claimed that my mother was crying for an MLA ticket for me. 100% lies. Disagreements should be fought politically, not by dragging private individuals and family members into the dispute. I reserve my legal rights,” he wrote.
The development comes at a time when the TMC is facing one of its most serious internal crises, with multiple MPs and MLAs openly rebelling against the party leadership and forming a separate bloc.
Earlier this week, a group of 20 Lok Sabha MPs, reportedly led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking recognition as a separate faction supporting the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The unrest within the party began in the West Bengal Assembly, where at least 58 of the party’s 80 MLAs allegedly backed expelled legislator Ritabrata Banerjee as Leader of the Opposition, defying the party’s official choice of Sovandeb Chattopadhyay.
