Will Shiv Sena factions reunite? Eknath Shinde’s tactical reply to merger amid political manoeuvring

The Maharashtra political circles are abuzz with rumours about the Shiv Sena merger after Eknath Shinde faction leader Abdul Sattar’s remarks that both factions should come together. Sattar’s statement that the BJP was working to finish off Shiv Sena, and that the party has forgotten the sacrifices made by Shiv Sena, has rekindled rumours that a merger could be in the offing.

Thackeray faction leader Ambadas Danve responded to Sattar, stating Deputy Chief  Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde could visit Mathoshree and hold talks with  Uddhav Thackeray. He said Shinde’s visit could help “find a way”, sparking heated discussions in the political circles.  

Daneve further said that there are no two Shiv Senas. “Shiv Sena is one. It is Balasaheb Thackeray's Shiv Sena. Uddhav Thackeray is leading the Shiv Sena, and the others are just a gang of traitors. If anyone from this gang of traitors wants a merger, he should talk to Uddhav Thackeray. A solution will definitely be found,” he added.

However, Eknath Shinde himself broke the silence on the merger rumours on Tuesday. “We are moving forward with Balasaheb Thackeray's ideology of Hindutva. We have formed a government in the interest of the common man for the second time in Maharashtra. The people of the state have also made us victorious in the recent local body elections by showing their faith in the Shiv Sena, the bow and arrow symbol, and the thoughts of Balasaheb and Anand Dighesaheb. This victorious chariot of Shiv Sena will continue in the future," Shinde expressed confidence.

However, many pointed out that Shinde did not reject the speculations or merger rumours.

The statement also holds significance in the backdrop of  the tension between the Shiv Sena Shinde faction and the BJP over the legislative council elections.
