In a horrific development, an almost 10-inch-long hacksaw blade was recovered from the genitals of a pregnant woman by doctors in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district. The 23-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries, and her husband is on the run after allegedly having brutally tortured her to death.
The autopsy surgeon in the forensic medicine department at Ambikapur Medical College, who examined the body of the victim identified as Heerabai, confirmed that she was three months pregnant and suffered around 17 serious external injuries on her body. The accused has been named as Ambikapur native Pradeep Agariya, who took the woman to the hospital tied to his vehicle on the night of Thursday, May 14, and fled when she passed away.
Pradeep Agariya and Heerabai had been married for five years, and domestic abuse became a perennial reality of the woman's life. An alcoholic, the accused often assaulted his wife even in the presence of their four-year-old daughter, reports said.
On Thursday night, Heerabai became the victim of a brutal assault by her husband, during which a hacksaw blade was forcefully used to hurt her genital area, news agency PTI said in a report. Their child was in the house when the barbaric incident happened, the report confirmed.
The trauma of the torture resulted in the pregnant woman collapsing, and the man tied her to his motorcycle and reached the Ambikapur Medical College Hospital. The hospital staff were told by the man that she had suffered injuries in a road accident.
The woman was declared dead after an examination, and Pradeep fled as he knew what was coming for him. A post-mortem was conducted the next morning when her relatives arrived, as the doctors were unable to go ahead with the paperwork pending.
