In a shocking development, the Bengaluru Cybercrime Police arrested two men for allegedly sexually abusing minor girls to create Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

Two minor girls were sexually assaulted by the accused, identified as Kiran Kumar (29) and Aditya (20), who used multiple mobile phones to record the heinous crime before uploading the videos to the internet, a news report said. The accused were produced before a court and taken into police custody for further investigation.

The Cybercrime Police unit became involved after the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) received a tip-off regarding the suspected creation and dissemination of CSAM, The Indian Express said in a report. Initially, the Kaggalipura police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.

During the investigation, the police were able to identify the underage girls who were abused by the accused. The survivors confirmed that the accused men used mobile phones to record the sexual assault. The police have recorded the victims’ statements, the report said.

All three mobile phones used by the accused to record the crimes have been confiscated. One of the two arrested individuals reportedly used to work as a swimming pool assistant.

Law enforcement agencies often arrest people for possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material—mostly caught red-handed while downloading or carrying the material on gadgets. What makes this case stand out is the fact that the creators and uploaders themselves have landed in police custody, the daily pointed out.

The police have invoked Sections 65(2) and 70 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 4(2), 5(l), 5(m), 6, 14, and 15 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
