At least 17 passengers narrowly escaped after a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus went up in flames in Haveri district on Tuesday morning.

The ‘Pallaki’ bus, travelling from Bengaluru to Gadag, caught fire on the Karnataka highway near Devarudda village in Ranebennur taluk. The driver noticed smoke and flames and immediately stopped the vehicle, ensuring the safety of all passengers.

Despite efforts by the transport staff to control the blaze, the fire quickly spread and engulfed the bus completely. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.

Preliminary reports suggest a mechanical failure or an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire. A case has been registered at the Ranebennur Rural Police Station, and investigations are ongoing.

Further details are awaited.
