West Bengal repolls: Voters from 15 polling stations in South 24 Parganas to cast ballot again

The Election Commission on Friday ordered re-election at 11 polling booths in South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.

These include four polling stations in Diamond Harbour constituency and 11 booths in Margrahat Paschim segment. Both constitiencies were included in the second phase of the assembly elections on April 29.

The repolling will be held on May 2 from 7 amd to 6 pm.

The four polling booths in Diamond Harbour are Bagda Junion High School, Chanda FP School, Room No. 2, Haridevpur FP School and Roynagar FP School Room No 2.

In Magrahat Paschim, the 11 booths headling to polls on Saturday include Uttar Yearpur FP School Room No 2, Najra FP School Room No 1, Najra FP School Room No 2, Deula FP School Room No 1, Ghola Noyapara Girls' High Madrasha Room No 2, Ektara Malaya FP School Room No 1, Ektara Malaya FP School Room No 2, Ektara Malaya Dhora FP School Room No 1, Bahirpuya Kurkuriya FP School Room No 1, Bahirpuya Kurkuriya FP School Room No 2 and Bahirpuya Kurkuriya FP School Room No 3.

The EC ordered that all the contesting candidates should be informed in writing about the fresh polls. It also directed officials to give widest publicity about the re-election in the polling areas.

The EC had earlier received demands for repolling in 77 poll stations in four constituencies in South 24 Parganas district. However, there is no official confirmation regarding elections in the remaining 62 polling booths. All these polling booths come under Abhishek Banerjee's Lok Sabha constituency Diamond Harbour.

There were a total of 32 complaints seeking repolling in Falta, followed by 29 from Diamond Harbour, 13 from Magrahat and three from Budge Budge.

"The complaints, which surfaced soon after polling concluded on Wednesday, include allegations of EVM tampering, use of substances on machines, and attempts to obstruct surveillance cameras. In view of the volume and nature of complaints, the Commission is taking no chances," a senior official told PTI.
