Karnataka homestay worker arrested for rape of US tourist; Owner cut WiFi, locked woman in room for 3 days

A Karnataka homestay owner and a worker has been arrested from Coorg hill station for raping an American woman.

The victim, a US resident stayed at the Homestay in Kutta Village that falls under the Virajpet Assembly constituency.

The main Accused Brijesh Kumar, a man originally from Jharkhand reportedly spiked the woman’s drink and then raped her at the homestay.

A senior police officer said “In the complains the victim alleged that she was given a drink laced with some intoxicant”

Police later found that the owner of the homestay was also involved, It is alleged that the owner tried to cover up the entire incident by deliberately disconnecting the Wi-Fi at the residence for three says so that she could not call anyone and ask for help.

A police officer who spoke to local news said that “Prima facie evidence suggested that the owner attempted to cut off the victim’s connection to the outside world. His role is being investigated and he had been arrested.”

The victim managed to escape after being stranded at the homestay fro three days by making the owner believed that she was going to Mysore.

After leaving she contacted officials at the United states embassy and Mysore police via email,

The Police and the embassy initiated proceedings and deployed a special team to investigate the case,

Both the accused have been remanded to judicial custody until May 3.

The Ministry of external Affair officials in Delhi and Chennai have also connected the local police to review the situation nd coordinate further action.
