In a horrific development reported from Karnataka's Haveri district, a pregnant woman has lost her twin babies after being assaulted by a group of men. An attempt to intimidate the family into repaying an outstanding loan led to the horrific incident.
The incident was reported in Allipur village in Haveri's Savanur taluk. A woman identified as Halavva owed ₹30,000 to one Suresh Lamani. The woman arrived at Allipur to attend her daughter Pavitra Lamani's baby shower. When they learned of Halavva's arrival, Suresh reached the ceremony venue with his family members and friends. They created a scene and demanded money from the woman despite several attempts to pacify them, TV9 Kannada said in a report.
Pavitra's mother pleaded that she would repay the entire amount after the ceremony, but Suresh's gang remained aggressive, demanding immediate repayment. They turned violent and attacked Halavva, which forced the pregnant Pavitra to intervene, TV9 Kannada added.
During the altercation, the accused allegedly kicked her forcefully in the stomach. She was seriously injured and rushed to the district hospital. However, due to the assault, she went into premature labour, and the twin babies in her womb died.
A case has been registered at Savanur Police Station against four individuals: Suresh Lamani, Parashuram Lamani, Mahesh Lamani, and Sakkubai Lamani. Pavitra’s family is in mourning but has reportedly claimed that they will not rest until they receive justice. It was not immediately known if the accused had been arrested.
