BJP President Nitin Nabin Slams Mamata Banerjee Over Alleged Double Standards in Religious Event Permissions
BJP National President Nitin Nabin has criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly following double standards in granting permission for religious events.
Nabin is in the state to review the party’s preparations for the upcoming assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Dakshineshwar Kali Temple in North 24 Parganas, the BJP leader pointed out that while permission is granted for namaz, people are forced to approach the courts to set up puja pandals.
"Here, there is permission to offer namaz, but to perform puja and erect pandals, one has to seek permission from the high court," Nabin said. "I offered puja at Dakshineswar and sought the blessings of the goddess for the well-being of the people of the state and for building a 'Viksit Bengal' and 'Sonar Bangla'," he added.
During his visit, Nabin is expected to attend several key organisational meetings, focusing on strengthening the BJP’s grassroots structure, reviewing ongoing activities, and streamlining coordination among party workers. Earlier, he held discussions with the state's core leadership to assess the current political landscape and devise strategies for the elections.
BJP leaders in the state, meanwhile, emphasised that Nabin's two-day visit was not just a routine organisational review but part of a broader effort by the central leadership to reshape the party’s election campaign strategy in West Bengal.
Elections for the 294-member West Bengal Assembly are scheduled to be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with the results set to be declared on May 4.
