Delhi Police have arrested a man and a woman who were accused of racially abusing and criminal intimidation against three women from Arunachal Pradesh. The couple, Harsh Singh and Ruby Jain, was taken into custody, and an FIR was registered at Malviya Nagar police station.
Police said they involved the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in the FIR against the woman.
"The investigation has now been entrusted to an ACP-rank officer after the SC-ST Act was added and is being closely supervised by senior officials," the police said.
The video of the incident, which circulated on social media along with CCTV footage and witness statements are being examined as part of the probe.
Harsh Singh, the co-accused, said that he and his family were cooperating with the investigation. He also said they were ashamed and issued an apology to all the people of the north-east. He also asked people not to do a media trial.
"We are showing complete cooperation with Delhi Police, and we have complete faith that the police and Indian judiciary stand with us and will clear everything through an unbiased investigation. We are definitely ashamed. I am not such a person, but it was in the heat of the moment. We did not intend to do so. I want to ask the social media users to listen to both sides of the story. Our property was being attacked, and one of my men was about to be attacked. The situation escalated after the woman came.
“Please do not do media trials. I have complete faith in the Indian judiciary. We will accept whatever punishment we get. I am being sent obscene, doctored images of my mother on social media; our family and profession should not be dragged into this. I personally apologise to all the Northeastern people,” he continued.

On February 20, three women who were from Arunachal Pradesh were getting an AC installed in their flat when some of the debris fell onto the lower floor.
The couple who lived below soon began a verbal attack against the electrician. When the women stepped in to defend him, the couple, Harsh Singh and Ruby Jain, began verbally abusing the women and used racist language.
