Piyush Dhanotiya (alias Piyush Dhamnodiya), the accused in the brutal murder of a 24-year-old MBA student at her rented accommodation in Indore, was extremely casual when he recently interacted with reporters after his arrest.

When asked about his motive behind the murder—as well as the alleged necrophilia claims—he simply shrugged them off, saying "nothing has happened, leave it".

"What's done is done. What can you even do now after knowing my answer?" he added when pressed further about his motive and whether he regretted the crime. He then smirked and said that he would reveal the reason "when the time comes".

Police officials have also noted that Dhanotiya showed extremely erratic behaviour—he was quite calm and detached, especially while the police were reconstructing the crime scene and during interrogation.

However, he also reportedly wrote on paper that he was guilty, even requesting police officers to let him meet her, as he claimed to love her.

How the duo fell apart

The relationship between Dhanotiya and the 24-year-old girl allegedly began in September last year, reaching a point where they wanted to marry each other.

In fact, in January, he even reportedly made the girl wear a mangalsutra (wedding thread/chain) and enacted a marriage by circling a lamp lit inside her room seven times, as per a Hindustan report.

However, he was not ready to talk with her parents and publicly get married. Dhanotiya also became extremely suspicious of her, as he felt that she had been talking to other men, which he claimed to have seen after hacking her phone and reading her chats.

The murder, which he had planned since about then, took place on February 10, when he forced himself on her and tied her up.

To further prevent her from escaping, he then sat on her chest, strangled her to death, and stabbed her. It is also alleged that Dhanotiya then drank beer alongside her dead body and committed acts of necrophilia on her lifeless body.

However, he also revealed that he had tried to summon her spirit back into her body using black magic. When that did not work, he reportedly considered suicide, but could not bring himself to do it.

Dhanotiya is now in police custody after he was caught on February 14, a day after the police discovered her corpse, as the investigation into his motives continues.
