Contradicting statements from the father, neighbors and family members of the three sisters who jumped to their deaths in Ghaziabad have complicated the case further.
Chetan Kumar, the father of the three sisters who died by suicide after an obsession with a Korean mobile task-based game have now been questioned up to three times by the police.
DCP Hindon Nimish Patil, who spoke to Amar Ujala, said that the authorities are examining the exact cause which led to the girls taking the extreme step.
Police discovered that the oldest sister, Nishika, had only gone to school until fourth standard. Prachi studied until the third standard, and Pakhi till second standard.
Their father had attributed the cause to financial constraints. However, the children were not admitted to a government school as an alternative.
Chetan Kumar, however, recently got mobile phones for the two older sisters six months ago.
Locals in the area have claimed that the sisters regularly attended coaching classes, but who was tutoring them, and on what, is unclear. Family members and parents were also not able to give details of the schools the sisters studied in.
In a recent report, police confirmed that the sisters were able to read and write after receiving a basic education. They also believe that Prachi, the middle sister, was the one who wrote the suicide notes. The notes have been sent to experts for further examination.
Authorities have also discovered that Chetan has three brothers, two of them live in Shalimar city and one in Delhi. Their parents are deceased and left behind two plots of 700 and 70 yards in Khajuri, Delhi. Despite owning land, Chetan Kumar had left the village and come to Ghaziabad after his first marriage in 2010.
The father had claimed that the oldest daughter, Nishka’s mother, was Sujata, his first wife, whom he married in 2006. Kumar had told authorities that he had later married his sister-in-law, Heena, in 2009, because he was unable to have children with Sujata. However, police records show that his marriage to Heena took place in 2013.
Based on this claim, there is a discrepancy in Nishika’s age, who would actually only be 12 or 13 years old at most.
One of the suicide notes found inside the sister's room referred to Tina as ‘Mummy’, raising questions.
Police had suspected on the second day of investigations that Chetan also married Tina, Heena’s sister, about five years ago. However, police confirmed that Debu, the fourth daughter, was the Hina’s daughter and that Tina was in fact a sister-in-law.
In May 2025, both wives, Sujata and Heena, left the house. Chetan filed a missing persons report for the both of them. However, the two returned after a few days. The neighbour reported hearing a loud argument, following which the sisters left. They also said that Chetan had to change his flats after the incident.
In a police statement, Chetan had claimed that he had only Rs 10-20 lakh in debt when he actually had claimed a loss of 2 crore rupees in share trading.
Police are now investigating the mobile phones that were gifted to the two older sisters, Nishika and Prachi. Chetan had claimed that he had confiscated the phones due to their addiction and had sold them four months ago.
The police are searching for the phones using their IMEI numbers. The police did not find any Korean games or friends from Sujata’s phone, which the children had used last.
Chetan Kumar said that he had confiscated the mobile phone his daughters used about three days before their deaths. The children who were out of school for the past two years and were addicted to a Korean task-based love game all jumped from their flat on the ninth floor after midnight.
Police are currently investigating the mobile phones and waiting for forensic and handwriting experts’ reports.
