A 33-year-old professor at college in Mumbai was stabbed to death at Malad railway station in the western suburb of the city on Saturday.

The incident took place in the evening when the professor, Alok Kumar Singh, got an argument with a co-passenger on a local train.

According to the Railway Police, Singh, who taught at the NM College in Vile Parle, was travelling from Vile Parle towards Kandivali.

As the train reached Malad station, the accused stabbed Singh with a sharp weapon, causing him to collapse. The attacker then fled the spot, leaving Singh bleeding profusely, an official told PTI news agency.

Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The Borivali GRP have registered a murder case and launched a manhunt for the accused.
