Trinamool Congress (TMC) has called the Supreme Court (SC) direction on Monday a victory, after the Election Commission of India (ECI) was asked to display names of all 1.25 crore voters with “logical discrepancies” in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
“Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) SIR game is over. One crore names that were targeted to be struck off have been saved, and the victory belongs to the people of Bengal. Our voting rights were being threatened, but the Supreme Court has given them a firm rebuke," said Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee during a rally at Barasat in North 24 Parganas district.
"Today, the BJP and Modi have been defeated in court; in the coming days, they will be defeated by votes. This is not Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, or Gujarat. This land has shown the way to the freedom movement and the Renaissance. We never bow our heads to outsiders," added the TMC MP.

BJP, meanwhile, welcomed the Supreme Court's directive. "The voter list is being cleaned up," said Samik Bhattacharya, BJP state president.
The apex court directed the ECI to display names of voters categorised in the ‘logical discrepancy’ list at gram panchayat and block offices in rural areas and in ward offices in urban areas within three days. The apex court also asked the ECI to call these specific voters for a hearing within 10 days after the list is published.
