Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, accused the Congress of disrespecting the culture and heritage of Assam, claiming that this disrespect was evident from the party rolling out a red carpet for infiltrators.

Speaking at a Bodo folk dance performance in Guwahati, PM Modi asserted that the BJP government was cleansing the sins of the previous Congress regimes.

He also alleged that the Congress ensured Assam's Bodoland remained disconnected from the mainstream.

"The Congress long neglected Assam and the broader eastern region, prioritising political gain over local development... They deliberately created trouble for the state," the PM claimed.

He said the Congress opened the doors of Assam for infiltrators for the sake of vote bank politics, and these illegal settlers grabbed land all over the state.

Modi said "the double-engine" government is reversing such failures.

"We established the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council and approved a development package worth Rs 1,500 crore for Bodo areas. Medical colleges and hospitals have been inaugurated in Kokrajhar... A separate welfare department and a Bodo Land Administrative Staff College were established to strengthen policy and administration for the Bodo community’s welfare."

He claimed that the BJP "reduced the distance" between Assam and Delhi and is increasing accessibility to remote areas through infrastructure.

Assam’s confidence, capability, and economic progress are strengthening India’s growth story, and the state is now emerging as one of India’s fastest-growing regions, the prime minister said.
