In a disturbing incident, the elderly mother of the Unnao rape survivor was physically manhandled in Delhi while protesting against a Delhi High Court ruling that suspended the prison sentence of expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
The victim, her mother, and lawyer-activist Yogita Bhayana had been detained on Tuesday while protesting at India Gate shortly after the verdict. This morning, they had planned a media address at Mandi House, but the authorities denied permission.
A CRPF-escorted bus carrying the mother and daughter did not stop at Mandi House. Also, there were no female officers present on board, as reported by NDTV.
According to the report, the CRPF officers were later seen elbowing the survivor’s mother and demanding that she jump from the moving bus. As they continued to push her, she was forced to leap out while the bus drove away, leaving the survivor still inside.
“It feels like they want to kill us. The CRPF officers took my daughter and dropped me on the road. We were ready to sacrifice everything for this protest, but they forcibly took her away," she later told the media.

Survivor to move SC
Meanwhile, the survivor of the rape case termed the high court's decision to suspend the jail term of Sengar as "kaal (death)" for her family and said that she would move the Supreme Court against it.
The court suspended Sengar's sentence on Tuesday, who is serving life imprisonment in the case, and ordered his release on bail pending the disposal of his appeal against his conviction by the trial court in December 2019.
Sengar, however, will remain in jail since he is also serving 10 years' imprisonment in the custodial death case of the victim's father and has not been granted bail in that case.
