The Southern Railway has announced that maintenance work is underway at Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi. Several trains have been affected by the works, as there have been changes in their departure/arrival timings. Tamil media reports said on Friday that some train services have even been partially cancelled. Here is what Southern Railway passengers need to know about diversions and cancellations due to the Thoothukudi situation.
- Palakkad Junction to Thoothukudi Palaruvi Express (Train No. 16792) will operate only up to Tirunelveli from December 14 to January 27, and will not cover Tuti Melur and Tuticorin. In the opposite direction, the Thoothukudi Palakkad Junction train (Train No. 16791) will operate from Tirunelveli from December 15 to January 28.
- The Thoothukudi–Mettupalayam Express (Train No. 16766) will operate from Kovilpatti instead of Thoothukudi on December 20. The Thoothukudi–Kovilpatti route has been partially cancelled. Similarly, the return route (Train No. 16765) will operate only from Mettupalayam to Kovilpatti on December 21.
- Chennai Egmore–Thoothukudi Express (Train No. 12693) will stop at Vanji Maniyachi instead of Thoothukudi on December 20, 21 and 22. The Vanji Maniyachi–Thoothukudi route involving Tuti Melur and Tuticorin stations has been cancelled. Similarly, in the reverse direction (Train No. 12694) will depart from Vanji Maniyachi to Chennai instead of Thoothukudi on December 21, 22 and 23.
- Mysore–Thoothukudi Express (Train No. 16236) will stop at Vanji Maniyachi instead of Thoothukudi on December 20, 21 and 22. In the opposite route (Train No. 16235), this train will depart from Vanji Maniyachi to Mysore instead of Thoothukudi on December 21, 22 and 23.
- The Vivek Express train (train number: 19568) from Okha to Thoothukudi will operate only up to Kovilpatti on December 19. The return journey (train number: 19567) will begin from Kovilpatti to Okha instead of Thoothukudi.
