Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with US President Donald Trump on Thursday and said India and the US will work together for "global peace and prosperity." The telephonic conversation comes as India and the US are negotiating bilateral trade agreement.
"Had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments," Modi said in a post on X. "India and the US will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity," he added.

Both leaders reportedly discussed about enhancing economic ties. India and the US have been negotiating a free trade deal for a long time, and the delay in finalising the deal has often annoyed the US president. "The two leaders exchanged views on expanding cooperation in trade, critical technologies, energy, defence and security," officials in the know of the developments said.
"Both leaders also agreed to work closely to address shared challenges and advance common interests. Modi and Trump also reviewed progress in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership," the officials said.
The leaders reportedly "expressed satisfaction" at the steady strengthening of bilateral cooperation. "Modi and Trump underlined the importance of sustaining momentum in shared efforts to enhance bilateral trade," the officials said.
The leaders also reportedly exchanged views on expanding cooperation in critical technologies, energy, defence and security, and other priority areas.

The call comes days after Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Delhi for the India-Russia Annual Summit. Both nations have set an ambitious target of $100 billion in bilateral trade.
Earlier in the day, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said trade talks with the United States have progressed well over several rounds of negotiations. The US Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer, had said on Wednesday that the US had received the best offer from India.
