Advertisments about the event, Tales of Kamasutra and Christmas Celebrations, had been doing the rounds on social media for the last few day, sparking an outrage.
The posters did not mention the location of the event, but claimed that the facilitator was Swami Dhyan Sumit, founder of Osho Ludiana Meditation Society of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh Foundation.
The police direction came following a fomal complaint filed by Goa-based NGO ARZ (Anyan Rahit Zindagi).
"It is really unfortunate that in the name of OSHO, Christmas, Meditation. Goa is being advertised as a sex destination. I have lodged a written complaint with the Goa Crime Branch. Hoping that strict action will be taken against the advertisers and organisers," Pandey said in a post on X.
The Catholic Association of Goa, led by President Cyril A Fernandes, had also filed a police complaint, alleging that the event promotes sexual offences and outrages religious sentiments.
Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao, the President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), said in a statement that the event was deeply offensive to the faith and sentiments of millions.
"It is with deep anguish and profound hurt that the Church in Goa addresses the recent advertisement on social media, which irresponsibly associates the sacred celebration of Christmas with explicit and unrelated themes,” he said.
