The internal conflicts within the state’s ‘triple-engine’ government have reached their peak, but all these leaders remain united for the sake of power, said Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Harshavardhan Sapkal on Thursday.

“They share a common agenda – to do anything and go to any extent to stay in power. Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister and leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, is completely subservient to power and cannot live without it. Hence, there’s no question of him stepping out of the government,” he said while speaking to media after a two-day meeting of the State Election Board of the Congress held at Tilak Bhavan.
Among those present were Legislature Party Leader Vijay Wadettiwar, Legislative Council Group Leader Satej alias Bunty Patil, Co-In-Charge B.M. Sandeep, Congress Working Committee member and former minister Naseem Khan, State Vice Presidents Mohan Joshi and Wajahat Mirza, State General Secretary (Organisation & Administration) Adv. Ganesh Patil, Siddharth Hattiambire, Sachin Naik, and others.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Congress State President Sapkal said that during the two-day session of the State Election Board, the process of finalising candidates for the municipal and town council elections was completed. “Candidates were decided after discussions with local leadership. The political equations differ from district to district, and alliances have been formed locally with like-minded parties. In some districts, alliances have been made with Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, Shetkari Kamgar Paksha (Peasants and Workers Party), Shetkari Sanghatana, and Rashtriya Samaj Paksha. However, no district has proposed an alliance with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS),” Sapkal stated, ruling out any chances of alliance with Raj Thackeray and his MNS.
On Thursday, Junaid Khan, Maharashtra State General Secretary of the BJP Minority Front and a staunch supporter of Chandrapur BJP MLA Bunty Bhangdia, joined the Congress along with his colleagues in the presence of Congress State President Harshavardhan Sapkal and Legislature Party Leader Vijay Wadettiwar. Sapkal welcomed all the new entrants into the party.
He added, “A sense of betrayal is growing among office-bearers across all three parties of the Mahayuti alliance. In the days ahead, many key leaders from the ruling parties will join the Congress.”
In other news, Dr Satyendra Bhusari, former President of Chikhli Taluka Congress in Buldhana district, passed away tragically in an accident on Wednesday. At the beginning of Thursday's State Election Board meeting, the attendants observed a moment of silence to pay heartfelt tribute to him.
