Actor-politician Kamal Haasan visited Karur on Monday and met victims injured in the tragic stampede in the city recently. Haasan was accompanied by former minister V. Senthil Balaji during the visit. He said steps must be taken to prevent such incidents in future.
The Rajya Sabha MP and Makkal Needhi Maiam leader visited Velusamypuram, the place where Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) conducted the rally. Haasan inquired with the police about the incident and met injured victims undergoing treatment at hospitals in the city.
Haasan said the state police must be thanked instead of being questioned for containing casualties in the tragic incident. The actor-politician also said speculations questioning swift relief measures by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and its leader V. Senthil Balaji must be dismissed.
The actor-politician reached Coimbatore and travelled by road to Karur. Haasan said everyone is aware of what happened and nobody should pick sides. He added that everyone should stand by people.

As many as 41 people died during TVK leader Vijay's rally in Karur on September 27. Over 50 people suffered injuries in the incident. The Tamil Nadu government has formed a one-member judicial commission to probe the tragic incident.
Recently, the Madras High Court came down heavily on actor Vijay and other leaders of the party over the incident. The High Court ordered a probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) over the tragic incident. The SIT led by IG Asra Garg visited Karur on Sunday and began its probe.
