Tamil Nadu Opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami targeted the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government over the Karur stampede on Tuesday and charged that the government is trying to shift blame, instead of taking responsibility for its failure.
Palaniswami questioned the press briefing conducted by the state government officials on Tuesday and asked how such a press briefing be conducted when a judicial probe is underway. Palaniswami also questioned why none of the ministers came forward to address the public's questions regarding the tragic incident.
The Opposition leader accused the government of failing in its duty to protect people. In a post in X, Palaniswami alleged, "After the Karur stampede, the Stalin-led govt is shaken." Trying to hide its failure quickly, the Tamil Nadu government's objective appears to be to shift the blame for the incident on others," he charged.
A team of Tamil Nadu government officials led by Revenue Secretary P. Amudha addressed the media on Tuesday and tried to address "conspiracy theories" floated based on the Karur tragedy. The officials shared visuals from the event and steps taken by the government for the security of people during Vijay's rallies.
