A household argument turned tragic in Maharashtra's Palghar when a seven-year-old boy died after being beaten by his mother for demanding chicken for lunch on Sunday. The woman also assaulted the child, a 10-year-old girl, using a chapati roller (rolling pin) following which she needed medical attention.

The shocking incident came to light when the neighbours heard the loud wailing of the girl from the apartment in Palghar's Kashipada area. The police arrived after being alerted by the locals and shifted the girl to a hospital.

According to the girl, who is still undergoing treatment, her brother Chinmay Dhumde demanded their mother Pallavi Dhumde that he wanted to have chicken. Enraged by the child's demand, the 40-year-old picked up the rolling pin and assaulted him. Later, she turned on her daughter and beat her using the same kitchen appliance, NDTV quoted the police as saying.

Pallavi was arrested by the crime branch who arrived at the family's doorstep along with personnel from the local police station and the sub-divisional officer, NDTV said in a report. A murder case has been filed and a probe is on. The Palghar police are conducting further investigation, district Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh was quoted as saying by the channel.
