Maharashtra has been hit with incessant rain yet again, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert (for Sunday) for various parts of the state, including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and ghat areas in Nasik and Pune.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also predicted heavy to very heavy rains on Sunday, in addition to thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40-50km/h.

Various airlines have issued advisories, with Spicejet warning travellers in an X post about "traffic congestion" due to bad rains in Mumbai.

"We recommend planning your commute in advance and checking your flight status before heading out," IndiGo Airlines wrote on X.

"Persistent and heavy rain may impact flight operations to and from Mumbai today," Air India wrote in an X post.

As water accumulates in various Mumbai suburbs and low-lying areas, the Andheri subway has been closed, and commuters were advised to use the Gokhale Bridge and the Mrinaltai Gore Flyover.

The BMC added that Mumbai received approximately 30mm of rainfall by 8 AM today, and that tide levels were expected to reach 3.24m by 3 PM today, and 1.51m by 9 PM today.

The Maharashtra government has advised people to stay away from rivers and flood-prone areas, as well as to travel only when necessary.

Water pumps have also been deployed in various regions of the state, and six NDRF teams have been rushed to affected areas in the Marathwada region. More NDRF and SDRF teams have been readied in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Nagpur to be deployed if required.
