Heavy rains were reported on Saturday in both Imphal and Churachandpur, the two places Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting during his first trip to the state since the ethnic violence broke out two years ago.
Ankle-deep water was seen in parts of the Kangla Fort in Imphal, where Modi will address a public gathering, reports said.

The Churachandpur district administration, in a statement, said there was no change in Mod’s visit and advised people to be cautious against "false and misleading" reports.
"It is hereby clarified that the Hon'ble Prime Minister will visit Churachandpur as scheduled. Rumours suggesting otherwise, based on unfounded reasons, are false and misleading," the statement said.
"People are advised not to be misled by such misinformation and are urged to extend full cooperation in the preparations and ensure active participation," it said.
Heavy rains had battered the northeast state in May and June, damaging over 3,000 houses and impacting over 19,000 people. Several areas in Imphal remained inundated while massive landslides were reported in a few other districts.
‘Modi to give a development push’
During his visit, Modi will inaugurate developmental projects worth Rs 8,500 crore, besides interacting with internally displaced people.
"We are fully committed to furthering inclusive and all-round development of Manipur. The foundation stone for road projects, National Highway projects, women's hostels and more would be laid," Modi said in a post on X ahead of his visit.
At least 360 people lost their lives, while thousands were left homeless since clashes between the Kuki and Meitei communities broke out in May 2023.
